Founder, Ceramic Artist

Jānis Ronis

Now with more than 45 years of experience in ceramics, Janis has played a pivotal role in the development and preservation of contemporary Latvian porcelain.

After graduating from the Latvian Academy of Art, he participated in and organised international exhibitions and symposiums. In 2000, he was elected as the founding director of the Riga Porcelain Museum.

In 2002, while serving as Director of the Riga Porcelain Museum, Janis founded Porcelana Galerija LLC. To start creating porcelain himself.
Working firstly from the basement of the House of the Blackheads and later moving to a different location on Kalnciema iela, he began developing many of his signature works, including the Crumpled Collection.

In 2007, Janis and his family established Piebalgas Porcelāna Fabrika in Ineši, transforming an abandoned dairy into a working porcelain factory.
With only the support of his wife in the beginning, Janis built the kilns, refined the production process, and crafted the pieces himself while gradually training a team of skilled artisans.

Today, we continue to build upon that foundation, combining traditional craftsmanship with decades of experience to create distinctive porcelain for everyday use, pieces of art, and special commissions.
